Westpac Bicentennial Foundation Asian Exchange Scholarship

The Westpac Asian Exchange Scholarship supports students who are interested in Asia and want to actively contribute to Australia's success in Asia in their chosen field. It presents young Australians with the exciting opportunity to spend up to two semesters studying at a leading Asian university and develop global leadership skills.
Successful applicants will be awarded AUD$12000 for the scholarship. This includes:
  • AUD$9500 to build your Asian adventure.
  • AUD$2500 for the Leadership Development Program.
  • Build your own adventure with the  freedom and flexibility to individualise your exchange and enhance your experience.
  • An immersive Leadership Development Program to further develop your key employability skills for a globalised world.
  • Become a member of the Westpac 100 Scholars Network, growing by 100 scholars each year, forever.
  • Attend the Westpac Scholars' Summit, an annual event that brings together Westpac Scholars from across all five scholarship programs.
  • When arriving in your host city, attend a Westpac Welcome Event and meet those in the local office and your Westpac Buddies.
Scholarship applicants must:
  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Be enrolled an undergraduate degree at UWA in second year or beyond when commencing their exchange.
  • Available to all disciplines.
  • Hold a minimum of a credit average.
  • Intend to do a one or two semester exchange commencing in UWA semester 2.
  • Not hold or intend to hold another merit based scholarship for the purpose of tertiary study in Asia for the same period.

Please note that selection for this scholarship will be contingent upon you being placed at one of the above exchange universities. Places at exchange universities are limited and are allocated based on Weighted Average Mark (WAM).

Selection Criteria
Westpac Asian Exchange Scholars will demonstrate the following:
  • A clear understanding of Asia’s role in Australia’s future prosperity.
  • A passion to learn about a specific Asian culture, language, tradition or business through a combination of academic study and cultural immersion.
  • The potential and ambition to contribute to strengthening Australia-Asia in their future endeavours.
  • A genuine desire to be an active member of the Westpac 100 Scholars Network.

Applications are now open for study in Semester 2, 2018, and will close midnight (AEST) 31st December 2017. Apply now here.
After applying to Westpac, applicants will be shortlisted by UWA. If successful with being shortlisted, candidates will be asked to complete a video interview for Westpac towards the end of January. Please pay close attention to your emails at that time.

Once applications close, UWA will provide a shortlist to the Westpac Bicentennial Foundation. Shortlisted candidates will then be asked to complete a video interview. The Westpac Bicentennial Foundation will convene selection panels to determine successful candidates.
To be eligible for this scholarship, you will also need to apply for the UWA Student Exchange Program for Semester 2, 2018. Applications are open now, here, and close 8th December 2017. You will need to include one of the eligible institutions mentioned above in your application as your first preference. Come along to one of our information sessions to find out about the exchange application process.
As this scholarship is not guaranteed, you are encouraged to apply for the UWA Study Abroad Scholarship concurrently to any exchange application.
